CODEX
Codex explores Northumbria’s connections to the wider world through the Lindisfarne Gospels, a beautiful illuminated manuscripts produced there around 710AD amid a fusion of Insular, Germanic, and Mediterranean influences. The audio blends period languages with field recordings, to evoke the world of the Lindisfarne monks’ and the skilled, painstaking process of manuscript creation.
This touring installation engaged the public to deepen understanding of the Gospels and the cultural context of their creation.
